Placecast Match API Launched to Translate POI Location between Heterogeneous Systems
Location-based Ad network Placecast today announced that they are launching a free tool that enables location content providers and location-based application developers to refer to a location in any number of ways, and validate that those references resolve to one true location on earth. Placecast’s Match API is aimed at resolving the time consuming and complex problem of correcting location data.

“Messy local data has been a problem online for years, which is now bleeding into mobile, » said Greg Sterling, founder of Sterling Market Intelligence and an analyst Opus Research. « Cleaning up and correcting listings and POI data will help the entire location-based ecosystem. »

Placecast already has WCities, Socialight, Urban Mapping, and Buzzd as trial customers.

“Matching our City Guide, Movie Guide and Event Guide listing data to multiple sources is a significant issue for us. There are lots of different ID systems and ways of referring to a place,” says Fraser Campbell, CEO of content provider WCities. “We’re excited about Placecast’s Match API because it will free up resources that are spent matching POI data in our system to do more value-added work tied to the actual location.”
