Remember when MySpace was an untouchable giant? And after that, remember all those stories about Facebook overtaking it, first internationally, and later in pretty much all areas? Now it seems to be Twitter’s turn to do the same.
According to Hitwise UK, Twitter has overtaken MySpace for the first time on the list of most visited UK websites. Last week, Twitter was the 27th most visited website in the UK, while MySpace was 28th. Looking at social networks alone, Facebook was the biggest UK site, followed by YouTube and Bebo, with Twitter in the 4th place and MySpace in the 5th.
This was easy to predict; Twitter’s growth in the past year or so has been nothing short of amazing, and MySpace has been out of ideas, and now it’s also bleeding users quite fast. Still, it’s odd to see a little microblogging tool, which almost no one put their bets on a couple of years ago when it started, overtake News Corp’s social networking powerhouse. Things change fast on the Internet, but right now, the sky is the limit for Twitter.
