(What’s special) about this InfoArea?

As you know, mobeedo is « Mobile Web 2.0 », i.e. it relies on user-generated content. However, in order to provide (a) significant (amount of) content right from the start, we are incorporating professional resources, first of all all geo-referenced Wikipedia articles (see the InfoArea of the Month November 2008).

Another popular resource suitable for mobeedo is OpenStreetMap. In a first step we incorporated all OSM areas (objects of type polygon). Since these polygons mark « only » borders of objects (e.g. buildings, parks, lakes), we expanded them by a certain factor, so that they (approximately) cover the Area in which the respective Information is relevant. OSM areas are labelled with the respective name but not linked with content. These labels we used as short descriptions, the community is invited to link related content (as it already was done for the Botanical Garden of the University of Innsbruck (see figure)).

Do you always forget to buy milk at the supermarket? Me too … well, I used to, with mobeedo this belongs to the past! Smiling One purpose mobeedo can be used for is as a location-based reminder. Simply set up an InfoArea around your supermarket (short description: « Reminder! Buy milk »). Optionally you can link a shopping list, either in form of a little web page or by using the wiki editor. … Oh, and don’t forget to check the ‘Private’ box. Otherwise everyone else passing by the store will be reminded as well … and milk will be sold out until you do your next groceries. Eye-wink

The Golden Roof (« Austrian »: Goldenes Dachl) is the landmark of Innsbruck, the home town of mobeedo.
mobeedo is « Mobile Web 2.0 », i.e. it relies on user-generated content. However, in order to provide (a) significant (amount of) content right from the start, we are incorporating professional resources, first of all all geo-referenced Wikipedia articles have been annotated by their language and a type-specific polygon (see figure).
The InfoArea of the Month November links mobeedo with the English and German Wikipedia articles about the Golden Roof. In contrast to the surrounding InfoAreas, the form of the Golden Roof polygon has already been adapted by the community. (Note that the polygon does not mark the border of the building but the Area in which the respective Information is relevant.)
